Long John - Baguio's best kept secret

>> Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Sure it doesn't sound enticing. Or it does. Whatever rocks your boat. But I've received many bewildered reactions and weird looks every time I say "I love long john". Apparently, none of my friends who have not lived in Baguio know of it.

A long john is a bread roll. It is long and soft, has cheese in the middle and is sprinkled with sugar all over. It drives me crazy!

I love soft bread. And the bits of sweetness go very well with the saltiness of the cheese.

Long johns are available from Mucho Pan, a small store almost along Session Road in Baguio City. It is best to grab freshly baked ones so that the bread is soft and the cheese is melted.

Long johns are delivered fresh in the middle of the day. Make sure to ask the ladies at the store what time the bread will be delivered and buy one immediately. I'm telling you, they run out of it in a few hours.

On your next visit to Baguio, look for your own food discovery that's unique to the city or at least not available from where you really live. Such tidbits are the true treasures of going on a trip :)

Looks delicious! We'll be taking a trip to Baguio soon, so I'll make sure to check this out. :)

Hi, Arlu. Hope you get to buy the bread fresh and hot. In my 2nd photo, the cheese isn't melted anymore :( Enjoy your trip!
