Put some french in your toast

>> Monday, November 24, 2008

I'm really not a kitchen person. My place when it comes to food is at the dining table, eating it. But, I can do a little bit of something something. I can cook steamed rice. I can cook fried rice. I can fry eggs and other stuff like hotdogs, corned beef, etc. The microwave is also a good friend of mine.

Being able to do so little in the kitchen, my specialty is preparing breakfast. Breakfast is an important meal, you know. It's a good way to start the day.

French toast is simply bread dipped in eggs. But, just like our adobo, it's cooked in hundreds of different ways.

My french toast, I learned from my aunt. I beat eggs into a bowl, then pour in condensed milk as I continuously stir the mixture. So easy, isn't it? The texture changes as you add more condensed milk, and of course, it'll make it sweeter, too. The whiter and thicker the mixture becomes, the sweeter it gets. Just rely on your guts.

I heat the pan without oil. If you like butter, it's really up to you. I dip a slice of loaf bread into the mixture, but I don't soak it. I flip the slice of bread to cover the other side then put it into the heated pan.

It's a quickie. It's just bread covered in egg. Just fry it on each side, and it's done.

One morning, I did that with two eggs. I was able to make around 7-8 toasts. I also made a tuna omelet out of tuna from the can.

It's really good. Simple things in life can make you happy, you know. It's very filling, too.

I just "discovered" your blog and I loooove it! ^_^ I'll try that French toast of yours; although I must admit I like mine on the savory side.

Oh, and I like tuna-from-the-can omelets. I usually saute the tuna with garlic and onions first, though. ^_^

Thanks, pixienixie :) Hope your French toast goes well. A friend suggested adding cinnamon and confectioner's sugar, too. Sounds good!

I like experimenting on these especially when I have time to cook one for breakfast on weekends. I like putting PB&J or cheese in between the toasts :P
